Published in Digital scientific magazine «Modern problems of science and education» Abstract: Here it is described a study of possibilities to build up and test the performance of the software defined network (SDN) segments. The applicability of the SDN for data centers and the distributed storage systems. We describe experiments on stress testing of the storage area networks with the use of NOX controller and various software and hardware OpenFlow switches. A check on the possibility of processing bulk client requests, measured response delay, carried out experiments to simulate the operation of data center with 64 switches and 100 thousands hosts. The comparative results of the effectiveness of specific mechanisms implementing QoS are presented. The main problems of existing implementations of OpenFlow SDN components identified during the work and recommendations on possible ways to address them are described. Published in Digital scientific magazine «Modern problems of science and education» Abstract: The purpose of the study are software-defined network (SDN) OpenFlow and effectiveness of their approach to build a network storage. Here we present the study how to build up and study of operating characteristics of software-configurable networks. Prototyping tools for managing network resources and data flows on the basis of the SDN are described. The estimation of the SDN approach for data centers (DC) and the distributed storage systems is observed. We describe experiments with various modifications of OpenFlow controller NOX and set out the specifics of the use of various software and hardware OpenFlow switches. We provide comparative performance results of specific QoS methods. A description of the main problems of existing implementations of OpenFlow SDN components identified during the research, and recommendations on possible ways to address them are provided. Future practical implementation of secure quantum communication technology in a multiuser network environment would require automatic monitoring of the optical link condition and quantum system parameters, along with adjusting them in real time according to protocol restrictions. We demonstrate how software-defined networking (SDN) paradigm can be used for addressing this problem on the example of a subcarrier wave quantum communication system, which is promising for network applications. We propose a novel approach to dynamic quantum network routing and communication security based on SDN OpenFlow protocol. SDN-operated dynamic switching between different data encryption methods, quantum or classic, will enable to organize virtual encoding channels with an ability to set the required Quality of Service level for security/bandwidth. These developments will further increase the feasibility of quantum technologies from the network perspective and contribute to bringing them to industrial scale.

Published in Digital scientific magazine «Modern problems of science and education» Abstract: A briefdescription of the main trends in the development of Software-defined networks (SDN) is given. We compare the advantages and disadvantages of the most popular approaches: end-to-end OpenFlow and virtual network overlays. We are describing existing SDN solutions. Among them, architectural and hardware preferences of Juniper Networks, the Virtualized Services Platform (VSP) from Nuage Networks, an integrated VMware/Nicira solution NSX and Windows Network Virtualization from Microsoft. Most of them tend to implement SDN on the existing infrastructure without having to replace network equipment, maintaining existing services. Main functions of the systems are implemented in software virtual switches that are directly managed by the hypervisor. It is concluded that at the present time OpenFlow has practical application only as a control protocol for virtual switches and most solutions are based on the virtual network overlays.
